Hunger on Display

God responds to 'hunger' - especially hunger on display. Just think about it - who gets Jesus attention? Jairus begging in the dust in front of his whole congregation, blind Bartimaeus yelling at the top of his lungs for Jesus, Zacchaeus who is willing to climb a tree (not exactly 'proper' behavior for a rich guy), etc.

Mary spoke about it in her song of joy (Luke 1:53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent away the rich [self sufficient] empty). Jesus said it in Matt 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst ... they shall be filled.

The problem with this is that it attacks our pride - we don't like to acknowledge our need - we don't want people to know we are desperate. We want to be cool, self reliant, in control, able to look after ourselves. And when we are, Jesus is willing to walk right on by and let us be self satisfied. But he always stops for the person who is willing to leave pride aside and like a child yell for help! Until it comes!

What does this principle have to do with our prayer life? Our worship? Our word time?
